Documentation has been one of the major activities of the Centre to identify, conserve and document various arts and craft forms of the region, especially those which are dying and vanishing. The major arts and craft forms and traditions of the zone along with their practitioners are identified and documented from time to time. The Centre is also undertaking documentation work in the form of still photography, videos, etc. Details pertaining to the various arts, crafts, folk forms, folk paintings, economic status of artists, fairs and festivals, temples, churches, museums, etc. have been documented.
NZCC has produced nearly 219 documentary films on major fairs and festivals, crafts fairs, folk art forms, folk instruments, great masters, museums, temples, art galleries etc. (list attached). The Centre worked with a number of anthropologists, musicologists and professionals from other areas to produce these well-researched films.
Three documentary films – Bazi & Bazigar (Punjab); and Jangam Gayan (social practices, rituals and festive events) of Haryana by Prof. Surjeet Singh Lee, Former Professor & Head, Department of Anthropological Linguistics and Punjabi Language, Punjabi University, Patiala; and Bhand Pather (Jammu & Kashmir) by Dr. Farooq Fayaz, Associate Professor, Department of History, University of Kashmir, Srinagar (J&K) were sponsored by NZCC with the objective of having these art forms included in UNESCO’s representative list of intangible cultural heritage (ICH).
